What to Expect At JY Exercise Physiology

Accredited Exercise Physiologists in Upper Mount Gravatt with the skills and knowledge to prevent, treat, and manage musculoskeletal conditions and injuries. Learn the steps i take to help you achieve your goals.

Step 1: Comprehensive Initial Assessment

Every program begins with a detailed and personalised initial consultation. This assessment includes both subjective and objective measures to build a complete picture of your health and function.

Subjective Assessment
We begin by discussing your:

  • Medical history and previous injuries
  • Current medications
  • Physical activity habits
  • Lifestyle factors
  • Work and daily routines
  • Personal goals
This part of the consultation can be completed online for convenience, or face-to-face in a clinic or home setting.

Objective Assessment
Once we’ve gathered your background information, we perform a physical assessment in person. This may include:

  • Blood pressure and heart rate measurements
  • Anthropometric data (height, weight, BMI, etc.)
  • Cardiovascular and muscular endurance tests
  • Flexibility and mobility screenings
  • Special tests for joint function or injury
  • Functional movement assessments
This process allows me to understand your current capabilities and identify areas of concern that will guide your treatment plan.

Step 2: Individualised, Evidence-Based Exercise Program

Using the information gathered, I design a structured exercise program that is tailored specifically to your health conditions, movement limitations, capabilities, and personal goals.

Your program may include:

  • Bodyweight exercises
  • Resistance band work
  • Free weights and barbells
  • Functional movements
  • Cardiovascular fitness activities
  • Mobility and flexibility training

Your program is designed to help you:

  • Manage or treat chronic health conditions
  • Reduce and manage pain
  • Improve biomechanics and movement quality
  • Enhance core stability and postural control
  • Increase joint range of motion
  • Rebuild strength and muscular endurance
  • Restore flexibility and functional mobility
  • Boost confidence and body awareness
  • Improve quality of life and independence

Step 3: Guided Program Delivery & Ongoing Reassessment

Once we begin, we work together every step of the way. Sessions are delivered with one-on-one support, allowing for ongoing guidance, motivation, and technical correction. I ensure you feel confident and safe while progressing at a pace that’s appropriate for your body.

Throughout this phase, I also provide education on:

  • Pain science and self-management techniques
  • Postural training and ergonomic advice
  • Lifestyle modifications to support physical health
  • Long-term behaviour change strategies
  • The benefits of exercise adherence
At the end of your program cycle, we reassess your physical capabilities using the same tests from your initial consultation. This gives us measurable data on your progress and helps guide the next stage of your program.

Step 4: Long-Term Support and Continued Progress

Progress doesn’t stop after one program cycle. Whether you continue under Medicare, DVA, private health, or privately funded sessions, we keep building toward greater outcomes.

You can expect ongoing:

  • Goal setting and program updates
  • Support with motivation and accountability
  • Progress tracking and reassessment
  • Guidance for sustainable exercise habits
  • Strategies for long-term condition management
My goal is to empower you with the tools, knowledge, and confidence to live a stronger, healthier, and more independent life.
